Watercolor painting based in the Cadiz’s Cathedral of the «Santa Cruz».
A Personal Tribute to the Light and Atmosphere of My Hometown
Some subjects simply can’t wait — and this was one of them. I had other paintings in progress, but the Cádiz Cathedral, known as La Catedral de la Santa Cruz, was calling to be painted. Growing up near it, walking around its square and hearing the sea close by, this place has always held a unique emotional pull for me.
For this piece, I aimed to convey the soft morning light on its ocher stone façade, as well as the typical mist that slowly lifts as the sun rises. I used muted, broken tones, played with complementary color contrasts, and worked with a limited palette to achieve a more atmospheric, less harsh result than usual.
This was both a technical and emotional challenge — and I truly hope I’ve done it justice.

Final Notes / Artist’s Reflection
This is one of those paintings that carry a weight beyond technique. Every brushstroke felt personal, and capturing the light, stone, and silence of Cádiz in the morning was an experience of deep connection with my roots. Sometimes the simplest moments in familiar places become the most meaningful challenges.
